Knowing Your Numbers: Five

In my Knowing Your Numbers series, those who are new to numerology get to see how spiritual numbers work and manifest in our world; those who are familiar with numerology will get a nice refresher, with extras! In this post, we’ll be going over the number five.

5 is the number of the big debut, the grand show, and the center stage. It’s fireworks, it’s love-at-first-sight, it’s sweaty palms, it’s clearing the highest bars in the jungle gym for the first time. It is the energy that we tap into to accomplish daring feats and major temporal accomplishments. This is because 5 is the energy of passion, instinct, and desire. Our “heart stuff” is often associated with the number 5, which makes its association with love magic rather unsurprising. 5 energy inspires us by making us feel, taste, see, and experience. 5 also revitalizes in ways that the other numbers do not: it sweeps out the old and brings in the new on a temporal level, sometimes even spiritual.

Compared to the pioneering 1 and balancing 3, 5 energy likes to turn back and test the rules that were locked in by 4 energy - to see how well they really work. Folks who bear it can promote fresh ideas and concepts easily, but have a natural inclination towards throwing a middle-finger up to the establishment and demonstrating why it should be revised or torn down entirely. 5 gives birth to some of history’s most powerful revolutions, revolutionaries, and change-makers.

It should be no surprise to anyone, therefore, that 5 can be a very stressful energy when in an adverse expression: it can manifest as passionate or even explosive fighting, conflict, noise-making, and other drama. To wit: the US show “the Real Housewives of Atlanta” has a Personality Number of 5, which ensures that people will perceive it as the fast-moving drama that they seek in order to be sufficiently entertained. Fives also promote competition, impulsivity, and haste, especially since it tends to engage us at our core wants and needs for survival, companionship, and community.

Manifestations in Numerology

Life Path: Fives cultivate our torch-bearers, whistle-blowers and activists: not just politically, but socially, culturally, and spiritually. Those who have an LP-5 are often tasked with breaking down any old or unneeded walls built by the 4s, testing the integrity of our shared values, and ensuring new life/eras/energy comes to pass. If they successfully direct their often rapidly-churning energy into a select collection of directions, as opposed to all over the place, they can achieve their destiny and have peace of mind at the same time.

Expression: Folks with an Expression Number of 5 are gifted with the ability to bring new life into established structures, dynamics, patterns, etc. They’re good in a crisis when quick thinking is needed, and they may find themselves frequently in situations where their gut feelings and knowledge are highly valued, such as being emergency room staff. They can draw upon their tendency towards moving quickly to bring things about, stat, when necessary. Whether through speech or some other means, they're most likely to achieve their destiny (no matter the number) through passion, upheaval, and movement. If they harness and hone the capacity to sweep and clear out that which doesn't work, those with an Expression Number 5 can play a substantial if not groundbreaking role in breaking generational cycles.

Personality: Folks with a Personality Number 5 may be perceived as on a spectrum between life-of-the-party and Drama Monarch Extraordinaire. They can also be perceived as libidinous or unfaithful, even if they’re not, because they’re inherently sensual and more inclined towards friendly, flirtatious interactions. Similarly, folks may expect one hell of a fight out of people with 5 energy, which they're extremely likely to get when the 5-bearer isn't bluffing. Which, by the way, they're often really, really good at.

Birthday: Folks born with a Birthday Number of 5 are brought into this world celebrated on some level or another, and tend to be blessed with being regularly “just in the nick of time” for opportunities and good fortune. In fact, others might see them as unfairly privileged (or in possession of tons of bad luck) because of how their lot seems to stack on a regular basis. In other instances, there may be a sense of time moving either too fast or too slow for them, which either gets exaggerated or tempered by their other numbers.

Things to Take Advantage Of

A healthy competitive streak (if cultivated carefully), curiosity, and passion are the top three. 5 energy loves to put us in different situations, breaking up what could otherwise become stagnant energy. Folks who hold this energy in one of their aspects should allow it to keep their routines, home spaces, learning habits, patterns, and relationships fresh. Also, because 5 is a “hot” number, meaning it’s more inclined to heat up and accelerate, those who have this energy are good with lighting the metaphorical fire under our asses. They would do well to take advantage of their ability to stand up for others, demand and push for social change, and inspire others into action.

Things to Be Mindful Of

The three Bs: backbiting, bitterness, and betrayal. 5 energy is one of the more dynamic of the sacred numbers, bringing an urge towards constant change for the hell of it. In an aggravated expression, it can bring about a mercurial disposition and mood swings, whether the pendulum swings towards anxiety or its cousin, anger. It is also the most fiesty and fighty of the numbers, and folks with a lot of 5 energy must learn to choose their battles wisely.

Similar to the 3 folks, there is a warning against chronic wandering, though it’s heightened: where threes are just distracted, indecisive or noncommittal, fives may run the risk of being genuinely aimless, moving about from one thing to the next in a disturbed or restless state. There is also a notable risk of substance abuse or thrill-seeking, especially through physical violence, that is heightened if the 5-bearer suffered trauma in childhood.
